Prior to art, Chris Rightmer’s only formal training had been in business. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in Omaha with an International Business degree, followed with a 2 and ½ year stay in Morocco with the Peace Corps. He then continued studies with a Masters degree from Thunderbird, American Graduate School of International Management.
The artist found his true calling in art 6 years ago while in between jobs. He picked up some pastels in hopes of finding a new hobby, but instead found his true talent and passion. Since then his work has blossomed. From pastels, he moved on to oils as a medium of choice because of their “flexibility and brilliance of color.” He especially draws upon the works of the Dutch Masters for inspiration in still life.
Recently, he has focused attention to the outdoors of Plein Air painting under the tutelage of Jack Wahl. While being an active member of the Board of Directors for the Tucson Plein Air Painters Society, he also serves as President. Also, he was recently selected into the Oil Painters of America.
